About Us

the story of us

How we dared to be different & built something extraordinary.

Our Beginning

What's Special About
PossAbilities

Back in 2014, when others were tightening belts and playing it safe, we did something a bit wild. We said: “What if we created a care company that wasn’t beige? One that put people – and their happiness – first?” And just like that, PossAbilities was born. We took a brave leap. We waved goodbye to the usual way of doing things and set up PossAbilities as a social enterprise with one simple idea: people deserve more than just ‘care’ – they deserve to live the life they choose.

We set up as a Community Interest Company, which is just a fancy way of saying we’re not in it for the profit, we’re in it for the people. Every penny we make goes straight back into doing more good in the community. That’s the way we like it.

We started small, with big hearts and big ideas. And now? We’ve grown into something pretty special. Nearly 800 brilliant humans strong, to support people in all sorts of ways: from supported living and shared lives, to funky drop-ins and magical wellbeing gardens. Through our disability services, we’ve built places that feel like home, not institutions. We’ve backed people to take positive risks, try new things, and say yes to what makes their lives richer.

We’re still a not-for-profit, still values-led, and still a bit bonkers. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. Everything we do, we do with care, creativity, and a cheeky grin, from community disability support to specialist care services designed around real lives.

But more than anything, we do it together. With the amazing people we support, their families, our staff, and our communities. This isn’t just our story, it’s theirs too.

From bold beginnings to brilliant impact

Our Mission Statement

To be the very best in everything that we do. Pushing back the boundaries of what it means to be person centred; helping to create a level playing field for vulnerable people; and becoming place makers, trying to improve the places that we work in

From bold beginnings to brilliant impact

Who Do We Support?

Lots of amazing individuals throughout the North West and West Yorkshire. People with learning disabilities. People living with dementia. Young people who’ve grown up in care. People with Autism. People with complex needs. Families going through tough transitions. Basically, anyone who needs a bit of extra support, and a lot of heart.

We called ourselves PossAbilities, because we believe everyone deserves the chance to live the life they choose. Not a version someone else picked. Not a watered-down “that’ll do” version. Their life, the way they want to live it.

36 reasons to be cheerful – and counting!

Our Milestones

We’ve never been ones to sit still. Since we popped onto the scene in April 2014, we’ve been rolling up our sleeves, dreaming big, and doing things a bit differently (sometimes with glitter, occasionally with goats).

Here’s a little peek at some of the brilliant things we’ve been up to over the years, the milestones that made us who we are.
